Bread, bread, delicious bread

Today hasn't been all that great. I now know what it's like to be 70+ year old with a hip problem...this pregnancy is completely draining all my energy and appearantly wants me to be in pain as much as possible. I'm having a huge problem with my pelvis, don't really know what the english term is but you can have problems with your pelvis when you're pregnant. I had it when I was pregnant with my baby girl, fortunatly I got it in my 7th month, but now it started around the 4th month.

One thing that helps me get away and forget about the pain is being in the kitchen. Unfortunatly I haven't been able to go grocery shopping so I'm all out of butter and eggs but I had a lot of flour and yeast in the pantry, what can you make with that? Bread. Delicious, home made bread. I've just started training on my bread skills, slowly but steadily I'm learning. I've made sourdough bread from scratch, honey-wheat bread and now I've made bread in a "dutch oven", except I don't have a dutch oven so I used my terracotta oven roaster (I just love that little roaster) and it worked great! The bread was fluffy and soft and had a great color and crust. I'm going to try this recipe next time with whole wheat and see what happens. I'll keep you updated. Anyway HERE is the recipe for the bread, it's very simple and "quickly" made. If you don't have a dutch oven or terracotta oven roaster then try and use something simular you have at home, something you can roast food in.

Birthday party

This weekend we had a birthday party for our 2 year old. It's scary how fast the time flies...she's already two, how did this happen?? Anyway, when we are having people over I like to go a little overboard when it comes to cooking and baking, but since this pregnancy is a tough one (yes I'm 6 months pregnant and it has been a very difficult pregnancy unfortunatly) I just don't have the energy for the same "splurge". All I did was bake a cake and make my moms Icelandic hot aspargus dish, that one is always a hit and easy to make! I didn't have a chance to take any pictures of the food, would feel weird to take pictures while our guests were watching and waiting to eat.

The cake I made was actually supposed to be cupcakes from the beginning. I planned on making mini muffins for the kids and I was SURE I had some mini muffin forms at home, but of course I didn't and of course I only noticed that the morning of the birthday...stupid pregnant brain! I had made the muffin batter and started fo fill out the forms and they only filled out 9 muffin forms.....I had no time or energy to make another batched so I just scraped everything into the bowl again and poured it into a cake form instead and had it longer in the oven. It worked fine! The frosting on the cake was to die for! Oh my god it was so delicious!!! I made a fresh strawberry cake with fresh strawberry frosting, and yes, it was as wonderfully delicious as it sounds! I have some leftover frosting in the fridge which I'm about to put in the freezer (yes, you can freeze frosting!) because it's just too damn good to throw away. It's taking alot of strenght for my part not to go into the fridge and just start pouring that frosting into my mouth....I'm drooling right now..

I found the recipe on pinterest. Don't know where I would be withouth that site! I always go there to look for inspiration when I can't find any from my cookbooks. Here is the link to the fresh strawberry muffins, trust me, make them! You won't be sorry. If you want more than about 9 muffins double the recipe. Enjoy!

Sleeping Beauty

Well...for some time now I've been thinking about this blog. I've been thinking about how I want to start writing and sharing my kitchenlife - even though not many may be interested in my kitchenlife I mostly just want to do it for little ol'me. The site looks different than it did before because I wanted to pimp it up a little bit, it's much more fun with some color! I went through my archive as well...what the hell was I thinking with some of that stuff? Sweet jesus.. the recipes that are still on the site are actually recipes that I've remade many times since I paused this blogg and I thought that because of that, they are worthy of staying where they are. However, I did notice that the recipes are incomplete and faulty on some level..at some point I will remake all of them and write them down correctly and hopefully have a better picture to go with. What was I thinking with those pictures..? I know I am no photographer but still...that's just horrendous! Thankfully, my new Samsung phone has a special camera feature to take food pictures (oh the times we live in...) and HOPEFULLY I will be able to share better stuff here.

I don't plan on doing exacly what I did before I took a break. The times I will share recipes will be from other cooks and I will link those recipes or write them down, but I will put in my notes as to what I changed about the recipe because I never really follow a recipe to a 100% unless I'm baking maybe. What I want most is just to share my thoughts about my and others kitchenlife, I want to learn more and become a better cook/baker and maybe blogging about it will make it more fun. Sharing the joy.

Now I plan on baking some sourdough bread with a starter that I made myself. This is my first time ever trying anything like this so it will be very interesting... I'm also dying to make some salt licorice macarons and some pralines with a licorice caramel filling. Don't think I will make everything in one day (I wish though..) but I'm going to write about it here once I've made them, and maybe, post some pictures if they don't turn out horribly.
